Steve Jobs Thoughts On Flash

Apple vs AdobeWe recently started a poll to find out how many of you thought that iPad should run/support Adobe Flash. An overwhelming 61% of you thought that iPad should definitely run Flash (you can see the poll here).

Recently there has been a lot of back and forth arguing between Adobe and Apple with regards to Flash. Adobe says that iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad are not able to fully experience the web due to not having Flash, whilst Apple say it’s an over bloated piece of software that drains battery life and new technology such as HTML5 can do all the things Flash can do without the security issues.

In a very rare move, Steve Jobs has posted a letter on the Apple website explaining exactly why Apple doesn’t want or need to support Flash on their mobile touch products.

You can read the letter here.

Tell us what you think, having read the argument by Steve Jobs do you think there is still a need for Flash on iPad?

Future iPad models to include video recording?

A recent job vacancy at Apple would suggest that future models of iPad will have a camera, offering both video and still features for the device. The ‘Software Quality Engineer’ (specifically focused on the “iPad Media” segment of the division) job vacancy reads as follows: ‘The Media Systems team is looking for a software quality engineer with a strong technical background to test still, video and audio capture and playback frameworks. Build on your QA experience and knowledge of digital camera technology (still and video) to develop and maintain testing frameworks for both capture and playback pipelines.’ Ever since Steve Jobs gave his keynote speech there was surprise at the lack of camera on the iPad. There is even suggestion that the current iPad (at launch) will ship with a camera built-in but due to time constraints and possible design issues was not mentioned by Steve Jobs. The iPad Site feels this is unlikely but there is always a possibility this could be the case.
