Roundup Of Top 5 iPad Stands

We recently did an article on ‘iPad Cases‘, this time around we are talking stands for your iPad. There aren’t as many stands available as there are cases but there’s still a reasonable selection, here’s our top 5 picks. The Joule iPad stand will not be included in this list as we already mentioned that here.

Apple iPad Dock

The first one of course has to be Apple’s own dock. There are 2 versions of this particular stand, one with a keyboard and one without, on this occasion we’ll be talking about the one without. The great thing about this stand is that it charges your iPad and features a convenient audio line out port that connects to powered speakers. The not so great thing about this stand is that it will only allow you to use your iPad in portrait mode. We have also heard that it isn’t much use if your iPad is in a case as it won’t fit on the dock.

Griffin A-Frame Stand

The Griffin A-Frame stand is made from Aluminum and allows your iPad to sit in either landscape or portrait positions. It doesn’t have a dock connector to let you charge the iPad but will allow you to use most iPad cases as long as they are not too thick. If you close the legs on the stand and lay it down, it sits at an angle allowing you to type and use the iPad in a more comfortable position.

Macally ViewStand

The ViewStand by Macally is again made from Aluminum like the Griffin stand above. It supports both vertical and horizontal viewing and is open to all connections and controls, so although it won’t charge your iPad like the ‘Apple Dock’ it does allow access to the charging port from behind the stand giving you the option of plugging your charging connector in. When laid on a table it is angled similar to the Griffin stand for better viewing and use.

Skadoosh iPad Stand

Full Review Here

The Skadoosh is one of the smallest around and is a nice piece of engineering. Because it’s so small and only weighs around half a pound it’s a stand that you could carry around if you need to. It comes with its own carrying pouch and can still be used with most iPad cases. It doesn’t charge your iPad but the designers have added a slot in the base of the stand and it’s the perfect size for your charging connector.

BookArc for iPad

The BookArc stand is a nice simple design that allows you to use your iPad in 4 different positions. The stand is made from heavy gauge steel and uses a soft silicone, reversible insert to hold your iPad. Because of its shape it’s easy to pop the charging cable underneath the stand to charge your iPad. The BookArc does allow you to angle the iPad but it’s only a slight angle and there’s no flexibility for a number of angles like the Skadoosh stand above.

Luxa2 H4 iPad Stand

The Luxa2 H4 for iPad is a stand offering 360 degree turning and is made from solid aluminum. The base of the stand resembles that of the the iMac and Cinema Display by Apple. With 6 supporting arms, rubber pins, and silicone pad design it should keep your iPad safe whilst in use. Luxa2 are marketing it as a holder for not only iPad but also the Kindle DX and other Tablet PCs on the market, but it’s clear from the design that it was focused around the iPad.

The stand sells for $59.99 and is available directly from the Luxa2 website here.

iPad Joule Stand

If you’re looking for something that matches the look and feel of your iPad then the ‘Joule’ work stand from ElementCase could fit the bill.

A beautifully made stand built from solid aluminum in the USA. The ‘Joule’ comes in a brilliant polished finish or a black anodized coating.

Rubber pads at the bottom ensure that it won’t slip around no matter what surface you use it on. It also has a velvet lined recess that protects the iPad whilst in use. Due to the back leg the stand will not tip over whilst using the iPad touch screen. You can even have the stand laser engraved.

No matter where you locate the stand it will surely look amazing but you’ll need relatively deep pockets if you intend to buy one. The price for the ‘Joule’ is $129 and can be ordered from ElementCase.
