Personalized Engraving Coming To iPad

iPad EngravedAccording  to Erictric, Apple will be offering an engraving service for the iPad in time for the holidays later this year. iPod customers who purchased from the Apple Online Store have had this option for a few years now and Apple would have liked to have offered this service earlier, but due to strong demand for iPad it hasn’t been possible. It is also expected that the engraving service will be free.

Apple is also expected to have a massive holiday season with sales estimates of the iPad to reach 12.9 million units for 2010 according to market analysts iSuppli.

LG Struggling To Keep Up With iPad Demand

LG supplies the LCD screens for iPad and is struggling to keep up with the demand.

LG CEO Kwon Young-soo suggests that the iPad display supply-demand imbalance may force Apple to delay planned international roll-outs of the device. He says:

“Demand (from Apple) keeps growing and we can’t meet it all. Apple may have to delay launches of the iPad for some countries due to tight component supplies and strong demand.

“We are considering increasing production lines for iPad products but overall supply is likely to remain tight until early next year.”

The company noted during its earnings conference call on Tuesday that it is selling iPads as fast as it can make them, with demand exceeding what Apple initially considered to be a “bold” assumption of one million units per month.

Apple Increases iPad Production

Apple A4 ChipApple are currently knocking out 1.2 million iPads a month and mentioned that by the end of the year they would ramp up the production to 2.5 million per month. Well, it seems that they have already decided to increase their production nearly 6 months in advance. According to DigiTimes, Apple is estimated to have outsourced 2.3-2.35 million iPads to Taiwan players in July with 58-60% for the Wi-Fi and 3G hybrid model. If this is the case then it goes to show that sales are still very strong and Apple have had to increase production to keep up with demand.

Austria, Belgium, Hong Kong, Ireland, Luxembourg, Mexico, Netherlands, New Zealand and Singapore will see the launch of iPad towards the end of this month.

Apple Have Sold 3 Million iPads

Apple announced today that they have now officially sold 3 million iPads since the launch on April 3rd.

Apple’s official statement:

Apple today announced that it sold its three millionth iPad yesterday, just 80 days after its introduction in the US. iPad is a revolutionary and magical product that allows users to connect with their apps, content and the Internet in a more intimate, intuitive and fun way than ever before.

“People are loving iPad as it becomes a part of their daily lives,” said Steve Jobs, Apple’s CEO. “We’re working hard to get this magical product into the hands of even more people around the world, including those in nine more countries next month.”

It was only 3 weeks ago that Apple announced they had sold 2 million iPads so it’s clear that the device is still selling extremely well. In fact when Steve Jobs gave his Keynote speech announcing the iPhone 4 he mentioned that an iPad was selling every 3 seconds.

Two Million iPads Sold In Less Than 60 Days

iPad 2 Million SoldToday, Apple have announced that they have sold over two million iPads. With the iPad officially available to a number of other countries on Friday, Steve Jobs made the following comment:

“Customers around the world are experiencing the magic of iPad, and seem to be loving it as much as we do, we appreciate their patience, and are working hard to build enough iPads for everyone.”

It took over 2 years for the original iPod to reach the two million mark and the iPhone over 4 months.

We have now lost count with the amount of people and analysts who said the iPad would flop when it was announced and it was nothing more than an over-sized iPhone…they should now be eating their words. Steve Jobs specifically stated in his keynote presentation that it was very much a hands on device and you need to hold and use it to fully understand and appreciate it’s beauty and usefulness, and that is why it is such a magical device.

With demand still outstripping supply it would seem once again that Apple have a winner on their hands, but perhaps in a much bigger way than even the iPod and iPhone. Is the iPad about to change the way we look at computers and how they are used?

Advertising firm Chitika have suggested that over 500, 000 iPads have been sold since launch. The company has calculated this by the number of iPads accessing the internet via Safari. This is perhaps a rather crude way of establishing iPad sales numbers but does give an insight into possible figures until official numbers are provided by Apple.

The last official figure (in excess of 300,000) was made the day after release of iPad in the US.
