Having finally received our 3G iPad, we popped out today and bought a ‘Pay As You Talk’ UK Vodafone SIM Card. We chopped it up to the size of a ‘Micro Sim’ and put it in our 3G iPad to see if it would work. The good news for all you UK users is that not only did it register on the iPad (very quickly we might add, around 20 seconds) but it also connected using 3G. When not accessing 3G speeds it defaulted to a standard connection. We have put a video together to show you how it worked…enjoy!

**UPDATE**
For those that are asking this iPad has not been jail broken, it is a brand new iPad straight out of the box without any alterations.

The iPad 3G has finally arrived in the USA. Those that live outside the US who have been wondering whether or not the iPad 3G would work outside America can breathe a sigh of relief, apparently it works fine if you have a scalpel!

A user has posted a video of a T-Mobile SIM card being used in a 3G iPad without problems, showing that the 3G iPad is fully unlocked and will work in any country. Admittedly the user did cut the SIM card down to size so that it would fit in the iPad but even if you don’t want to cut a SIM up you can be assured that if you can get your hands on an iPad 3G from the US then it will work with a micro SIM once the likes of Vodafone, Orange and O2 release theirs at the end of May.

Guide To Activating 3G Service on iPad

iPad 3G SetupWith the iPad 3G being delivered to many customers in the USA today and the availability of iPad 3G in Apple Stores, Apple has posted a support document offering a step by step guide on how to activate the 3G service using AT&T.

Apparently, once you’ve completed the signup process, it can take several minutes for the 3G service to be activated, but customers can use their iPad as normal on Wi-Fi and will be notified by an alert once the plan is activated.

AT&T Data Plan Fact Sheet For iPad 3G

AT&T iPad 3G Data PlansAT&T have released a summary (click image on left to enlarge) on what you can expect from their iPad 3G data plans when they are released this Friday.

If you’re not aware already, AT&T are offering two types of plans, an unlimited data plan at $29.99 per month allowing you to pick up your email, surf the net, watch online movies etc without worrying about how much data you are using. Then there’s the plan at $14.99 per month offering a maximum of 250mb worth of data.

What is interesting is that if you choose the $14.99 data plan you’ll get a warning on your iPad when you have only 20% of your allowance remaining and the same again at 10% giving you the opportunity to top up anytime you like. You also have the option to check your usage from within the ‘Settings’ on your device.

Data plans automatically renew after 30 days so if you choose not to renew you’ll need to remember to change your settings to stop the renewal happening.

Peordered iPad 3Gs On The Way

iPad 3GMany people who pre-ordered their iPad 3Gs are sending in emails to let us know that their units have been ‘Prepared for shipment’ by Apple.

Apple did state that those who pre-ordered would receive their iPads on April 30th. Some have said it’s been an agonizing wait to get the iPad in their hands whilst many have already had the luxury of the Wifi model and been playing around with it for 4 weeks.

Reviewers of the Wifi model have mentioned that the iPad is amazing but there were many times when they wished they had a 3G model when out and about.

For those who have preordered their 3G iPads, the wait will probably have been worth it.

**UPDATE**
Apparently the iPad 3G will also be available in Apple retail stores and at Best Buy on April 30th according to Steve Jobs! An email to Jobs asking if the 3G iPad would be available at Best Buy on April 30th the response came back as ‘Yep’.

It was previously thought that 3G would not be available until May 7th but if the above is believed to be true then Christmas has come early for some! It still shows on the Apple website that any orders for the iPad 3G will be shipped by May 7th.
