iBooks Launches In The UK

With just one day until iPad launches outside of the USA, iBooks is now available in the UK iTunes App Store. It was believed that a few countries actually had availability to iBooks over a week ago but the UK store was not showing the application.

When you download iBooks, Winnie The Pooh will appear on your bookshelf as a taster of what you can expect. The books currently available are free when entering the iBooks store and there isn’t a huge selection to choose from but the fact that iBooks is available can only be good news for those living outside of the US. With any luck there will be more books available at launch on Friday, 28th May.

iBooks not available in the UK or Europe?

One of the main areas in Steves Jobs’ keynote presentation of the iPad was iBooks, allowing the device to be used as an e-reader similar to that of Amazon’s Kindle. However, we have noticed that on the UK Apple site and a number of the European Apple sites (under the ‘Features’ tab) that the iBooks facility is not shown unlike the US site that clearly shows details of iBooks and an image to go with it.

Does this mean that Europe will not get the iBooks feature? Or does it simply mean that the iBooks feature will not be available at launch (in Europe) but will be available at a later date?
