Apple Retail Stores – 10th Anniversary

The first Apple Retail Store opened 10 years ago today and since opening their very first store Apple haven’t looked back. Now with over 320 stores open worldwide and employing over 30,000 staff, Apple is surely sitting on the crest of their very own self built wave.

To celebrate the retail stores 10th anniversary I thought it would be a good idea to look at some of the products Apple were offering back in 2001 (cutting edge at the time) and some of the items they currently offer in their stores today. There’s also a video of Steve Jobs below giving viewers a sneak peek of the very first Apple Retail Store at Tysons Corner, VA.

So there you have it, some of Apple product comparisons from ‘Then’ and ‘Now’.

Technology has come a mighty long way in 10 years, who knows what the next 10 years hold!

Here’s just a few of the products that didn’t even exist in Apple’s portfolio in 2001, and perhaps weren’t even on the agenda apart from a tiny little thought in the mind of Steve Jobs, maybe not even he knew these products were going to exist back in 2001. They don’t need an introduction!

Apple Increases iPad Production

Apple A4 ChipApple are currently knocking out 1.2 million iPads a month and mentioned that by the end of the year they would ramp up the production to 2.5 million per month. Well, it seems that they have already decided to increase their production nearly 6 months in advance. According to DigiTimes, Apple is estimated to have outsourced 2.3-2.35 million iPads to Taiwan players in July with 58-60% for the Wi-Fi and 3G hybrid model. If this is the case then it goes to show that sales are still very strong and Apple have had to increase production to keep up with demand.

Austria, Belgium, Hong Kong, Ireland, Luxembourg, Mexico, Netherlands, New Zealand and Singapore will see the launch of iPad towards the end of this month.

Steve Jobs Thoughts On Flash

Apple vs AdobeWe recently started a poll to find out how many of you thought that iPad should run/support Adobe Flash. An overwhelming 61% of you thought that iPad should definitely run Flash (you can see the poll here).

Recently there has been a lot of back and forth arguing between Adobe and Apple with regards to Flash. Adobe says that iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad are not able to fully experience the web due to not having Flash, whilst Apple say it’s an over bloated piece of software that drains battery life and new technology such as HTML5 can do all the things Flash can do without the security issues.

In a very rare move, Steve Jobs has posted a letter on the Apple website explaining exactly why Apple doesn’t want or need to support Flash on their mobile touch products.

You can read the letter here.

Tell us what you think, having read the argument by Steve Jobs do you think there is still a need for Flash on iPad?

With the war continuing between Apple and Adobe we decided that it was time to run a poll. Adobe’s argument, is that much of the web uses Flash technology and without it the iPad is not the ultimate web consumption device. Apple’s argument is that Flash is a bloated, unnecessary plugin that saps memory and battery life and newer technology such as HTML5 can do all the things Flash can do.

What are your thoughts….vote now.

Apple Delays International iPad Launch

I’m afraid to say it but for those who live outside the US, the wait for iPad just got longer.

Yep that’s right, Apple have announced that due to unexpected demand for their new shiny piece of kit they will now delay the ‘International Launch’ of iPad until the end of May!

Apple have said that pre-orders and pricing will be available from 10th May but the actual delivery will not be until the end of the month.

This will surely upset people who live outside the US and have been patiently waiting to get their hands on their own iPad. Many thought that the iPad would be available on April 24th which is only 10 days away, that’s now completely out of the question.

Let us know what your thoughts are by leaving a comment.

Queues are beginning to form outside Apple Stores across the US. Apparently Apple will be giving a special gift to customers who queue up overnight to finally get their hands on an iPad. The following picture was taken by a Twitter user outside the Apple Store in New York.

iPad apps begin to show in ‘App Store’

The first batch of iPad apps are now showing in the ‘App Store’.

The apps can be purchased and downloaded but will of course only work with the iPad. Downloaded iPad apps appear in a separate section of the “Apps” pane in iTunes, below iPhone and iPod touch applications.

iPad camera pulled at the last minute?

It looks as though Apple where going to put a camera into the iPad but decided against it at the last minute. The photo shows what is apparently the iPad outer frame taken by repair company Mission Repair

Although the iPad is not yet for sale the company seems to have got a supply of iPad parts through unofficial channels.

Assuming that these pictures do show actual iPad parts it would suggest Apple did intend for the iPad to have a camera facility but rejected it at some point during the development stage.
