There’s quite a few zombie type games on the ‘App Store’, some work and some don’t. Granny vs Zombies though, definitely does work and it was an unexpected surprise! When you first see the games screen shots it looks good but as we all know that doesn’t necessarily translate to good gameplay.

The principle behind the game is simple, there are zombies attacking and you need to kill them! From what I can ascertain there are 8 levels and within each level there are 5 phases, each phase gets progressively harder with more and more zombies trying to eat you alive. Once you complete a level another level is unlocked. At the beginning of the game you have one character to choose from….a granny! There is another character available but is locked at the beginning of the game.

The controls are also simple, there is a joystick on the left which controls your granny and two buttons on the right, one fires a weapon and the other selects a weapon. Your granny initially starts off with a baseball bat which is funny enough but even in the first level she’ll end up wielding everything from a shotgun to a rocket launcher. There’s something highly amusing about your granny wandering around with an AK47 blowing the living sh** out of blood sucking zombies!

It’s a simple game but there’s something very addictive about it, you have to have just one more go. Maybe it’s the fact that you want to unlock the next level to see what it’s all about or maybe it’s the fact that a granny walking around with all sorts of weapons at her disposal is amusing, from personal experience I think it’s a bit of both.

You can choose from a number of difficult levels (Easy, Normal or Hard), I chose the normal setting and I must say the game isn’t easy. It took me a number of attempts to finish the first level and the second level seems that much harder. It wasn’t until I could figure out a decent strategy that I was able to complete level one and even with my strategy I still lost 2 lives (you start with 4 lives).

Conclusion

All in all Granny vs Zombies HD is a fun addictive game, the developers have done a nice job. If I had to make one criticism it would possibly be the difficulty level but there is an easy level to choose from which I didn’t try. Some will see this as a positive rather than a negative. You could spend your hard earned cash on a lot worse, Granny vs Zombies is definitely one I would advise you check out. It’s fun, addictive and amusing all at the same time….great job.
