For those of you who don’t know the Ferrari Opus is a book, but it’s not just any book. These books are beautifully crafted, limited in numbers and will tell you everything you need to know about Ferrari. To prove our point, these books come in three different editions depending on how much money you have to splash. The Classic, signed by both Felipe Massa and Fernando Alonso costs £2000. The Cavallino Rampante, limited to just 500 copies costs £3750 and last but not least the Enzo Edition, limited to 400 copies and costs a cool £20,000, or you could have the iPad version for £1.19/$1.99!

Let’s get something straight from the outset, this isn’t some watered down version of the Ferrari Opus but the full version on your iPad, it’s a big app weighing in at a hefty 464 MB with a total of 453 pages. The app is beautifully presented and runs smoothly with a well thought out design, many developers could do a lot worse than to take a look at the Ferrari Opus app and possibly pinch a few ideas!

What about the content? The content in this app is amazing, everything from Luca di Montezemolo to Niki Lauda to Ferrari’s factories and buildings, trust me when I say you have to see them to believe it! There’s a lot to read in this book and I mean a lot, I thought I knew a fair amount about Ferrari but having just flicked through this app it would seem I knew absolutely nothing. Along with all the stuff to read it’s littered with the most incredible photography, and photos I doubt you’d get to see anywhere else. The images consist of everything from Ferrari road cars to up close and personal portraits to the F1 pit lane and they are all of the highest quality allowing you to zoom right in.

Navigation is very well done enabling you to easily access any part of the book you choose and add any bookmarks you decide. You can select a variety of backgrounds, quickly access the contents from a drop down menu, flick your finger from right to left as you would with a normal book, double tap to zoom in, it’s just all so effortless. There’s also a few video clips available to watch as well.

Conclusion

If you’re thinking this is just some book app, think again. You haven’t seen how a book should be done until you see the Ferrari Opus app. It’s a joy to use and the design is perfect, there’s plenty of information even for the hardened Ferrari fan, the app is worth it just for the high quality images. If you have even the slightest interest in Ferrari then you need to check this app out. Many of us can’t afford a Ferrari or the minimum cost of £2000 for the tangible copy of ‘The Classic Ferrari Opus’ but what we can do is afford £1.19/$1.99 for the full version on our iPad. I honestly believe you won’t be disappointed if you download it.
